Gujarat Ki Beti Who Was Buried Alive By Her Parents Dies On Raksha Bandhan

| Updated: August 11, 2022 18:05

Being a girl child is not easy even in the famed Gujarat Model. And it gets worse when unemployment and poverty join their hands. Unemployed Shailesh and Manju were looking for a stable job. But instead of a job, a baby girl entered their lives on August 4 at around 6 am. When Manju was pregnant, she was okay giving birth to either a boy or a girl. The unemployed couple who used to work as casual farm labourers on good bright days had buried their newborn baby, which Vibes of India would want to call Sita within two of her birth.

Sita of Ramayana was born  in a furrow in a ploughed field, but attempts were made to smother this Sita of Gujarat –by her parents. However, as luck would have it the newborn was excavated from a remote farm in Sabarkantha district. Jitendrasinh Manharsinh Dabhi was on his usual morning round at his farm in Gambhoi village, Himmatnagar Taluka in Sabarkantha district when, something writhing “within the mud,” caught his attention. He asked the farm help, Jasubhai Parmar, to inspect closely. On raking the mud with his hands, Parmar saw tiny human feet. Soon, there was a commotion and employees from the adjacent electricity office came in to help out.

Upon ploughing the ground, Sita was found struggling to move her legs. The villagers called the 108 helpline ambulance for emergency medical relief. Sita was excavated alive and rushed to Himmatnagar Civil Hospital.

Sita also had a four-year-old brother. Today on Rakshabandhan Sita breathed her last at Himmatnagar Civil Hospital.

At about 10 am, when Jitendrasinh Manharsinh Dabhi was on his usual morning round at his farm in Gambhoi village, he saw something moving in the mud. He asked the farm help, Jasubhai Parmar, to inspect it and that’s when they identified the newborn with an umbilical cord.

Today afternoon Sita died after battling for her life for a week at Himmatnagar Civil Hospital. The girl was undergoing treatment at the NSU Department of Civil. Himatnagar Civil Hospital RMO NM Shah said, “She was suffering from jaundice and the rate of infection had increased. She was a premature baby and hardly weighed one kilogram. Due to non-development of organs, her health deteriorated in the past few days and finally, she gave up.”

The couple, Manjulaben and her husband Shailesh Bajadia buried their child on a farm–after this, Manjulaben and her husband left for another neighbouring village. Shailesh went to Kadi in Mehsana district–101 kms from Himmatnagar while Manjuben went to Mansa village in Gandhinagar–43 kms from Himmatnagar.
