Sibling rivalry is the name of the game. But come Rakshabandhan, and out goes the rivalry to welcome in revelry between brothers and sisters. If Bollywood is the touchstone of couple goals, it is not far either when it comes to showing and showering love on siblings. Camaraderie and jealousy go hand-in-hand when it comes to the relationship between siblings, and of course, love is the underlying factor, no matter what. This Rakhi, we take a look at five on-screen brother-sister duos who gave us relationship goals.
Agneepath: Hrithik Roshan and Kanika Tiwari (Vijay Deenanath Chauhan and Shiksha)
The love that a fiery and brooding Vijay has for his sister is unparalleled. Even when separated due to circumstances, he shows his love for his baby sister by running NGOs in her name. The relationship between the two is nothing less than sacred and there’s no need for a ‘rakhi’ to prove that. Vijay is surely the brother who’d turn the world upside down to put a smile on his sister’s face.
Kai Po Che!: Sushant Singh Rajput and Amrita Puri (Ishaan and Vidya Bhatt)
Ishaan and Vidya from Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che! have also made it to the list of our favourite on-screen brother-sister duos. Their relationship proves that when shared with your loved ones, even the little joys of life can become the biggest source of your happiness. Whether it’s watching a cricket match or flying a kite or just sitting idle and gazing at the sky, there are many such simple and wonderful moments that Ishaan and Vidya share. These moments beautifully showcase their bond in the film. Hailing from a middle-class Gujarati family, this brother-sister pair is as relatable as one could be. And we love them for the very same reason.
Queen: Kangana Ranaut and Chinmaya Agrawal (Rani and Chintu Mehra)
Rani’s brother Chintu will make it to the top of any list that mentions brother-sister love. He might be way younger than Rani in age but that doesn’t stop him from taking his duty to protect and care for his sister seriously in any way. He follows her everywhere she goes and is even brave enough to silently threaten the guy who breaks his sister’s heart. The relationship between Chintu and Rani is Queen is just pure innocence and love. His sister is everything to him and he listens to every word she says. Who wouldn’t want a brother like that?
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na: Prateik Babbar and Genelia D’Souza (Amit and Aditi Mahant)
Aditi aka Meow’s world revolves around her best friend Jai aka Rats. But it’s her brother Amit, who plays a pivotal role in making her realise her feelings for him. Your siblings know you more than you do, hence proved! The characters of Amit and Aditi share a blow hot-blow cold equation but they also complete each other in more ways than one. And that was perfectly translated on screen by the actors. The film marked the debut of both Prateik and Genelia and we seldom see them on celluloid anymore. However, we’d always dote this adorable twosome.
Dil Dhadakne Do: Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra Jonas ( Ayesha and Kabir Mehra)
This is a story of affluent siblings who live their own lives. It does not show sacred brother-sisterly moments, but it throws light on those eye-opening talks that you have once in a while with your brother or sister that makes you realise that you will always be there for each other. When the going gets tough, you’ve got each other’s back and sometimes you understand things without even talking to each other. Kabir and Ayesha may not overtly show their affection, but then, which siblings do, right?
