Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell apprehended two men in the Relief Road area for allegedly committing fraud through ATM. The two men, who were carrying a total of 39 debit cards, have been booked under IPC 420 for fraud, and 406 for criminal breach of trust.
According to the police, Rahul Khan and Mohammad Akhil Iliyas belong to Mewat in Harayana. The duo carried out 14 transactions with 14 different cards at Central Bank ATM near Lal Darwaza, and managed to withdraw Rs1.4 lakh.
The duo would use the card, insert the PIN and just as the ATM would dispense cash, they would hold the cash until the transaction is timed-out. They would then take the money. They would then call the bank saying they didn’t get the money as the transaction was timed-out but the amount had been debited from the account. The bank would then deposit the money into their account.
The accused have carried out such fraud in various banks, for which they had legitimate cards in their names. The police are now investigating the matter and will take strict legal action against the duo.
