India won four more medals on the fifth day of Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham Tuesday. The first four medals were won by the women’s lawn bowls team. Then, the fifth gold medal was won by the men’s table tennis team,as India beat Singapore. It was not late, as moments later, Vikas Thakur received silver in the men’s 96 kg weightlifting.
The Mixed Badminton team lost to Malaysia in the final, a loss for PV Sindhu. Both Seema Punia and Navjeet Kaur Dhillon failed to secure a medal, which was expected from the women’s discus throw. The women’s hockey team also suffered a 1-3 defeat against England in a Pool A match.
Dutee Chand too, failed to make the women’s 100m final. Muhammad Anees Yahiya and Murali Sreeshankar (men’s long jump), Tejaswini Shakar (men’s high jump) and Manpreet Kaur (women’s shot put) qualified for the finals. Rohit Tokas defeated Ghana’s Alfred Kotey in the men’s welterweight division to enter quarters.
