Gujarat Gets Double of July 2021’s Rainfall This Month

| Updated: July 27, 2022 11:06

The state of Gujarat has already recorded 68% of rainfall in the monsoon season, which is not even over yet. Torrential rain was seen in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Aravalli on Tuesday. The rain’s figure is more than double compared to the previous year’s figure, which was an average of 33% rainfall.

The state is predicted to receive moderate amounts of rainfall on Wednesday, says IMD. On Tuesday, Bharuch’s Vagra and Sabarkantha’s Prantij observed the highest rainfall of 50 mm, and 150 talukas received rainfall till 6 pm. Umerpada in Surat got 43 mm, Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha received 35, Amirgadh in Banaskantha and Amreli about 36 mm, Bhiloda in Aravalli 35 mm and Dhanera in Banaskantha 33 mm.

The weather department has reasoned the active monsoon’s cause to be due to the low pressure area in the Arabian Sea with associated cyclonic circulation and monsoon trough. A respite from rains is predicted this week as the monsoon trough moves towards the Himalayan region, says IMD. IMD’s regional director Manorama Mohanty said that a break is expected from the rains in Gujarat, from Thursday. The active monsoon spell which is ongoing since July 7, will finally receive a hiatus.
Ahmedabad was at the larger end of receiving rainfall on Monday night and early Tuesday. It was between Monday 10.00 PM and Tuesday 4.00 AM, that the city received the highest amount of rainfall in its North West zone areas and recorded an average of 35 mm of rainfall.
