Sudhanshu Mehta has reportedly been sacked from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Gujarat President C.R. Paatil’s office. Mehta was known as a close associate of Paatil and was seen everywhere besides the BJP leader. According to sources, Mehta has been a topic of discussion for a while now among the bureaucrats in Gandhinagar. Mehta is said to have been removed from the office because of his so-called high-headedness.
It is said that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) directed the Gujarat office to remove Mehta after he started calling high-ranking officers and giving them instructions. The sources said that at one point Mehta had called Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) ranked officials and given them directions. Some sources said that the PMO has given the said directions so as to prevent tarnishing the party’s image.
Mehta was first associated with the late Kashiram Rana, former Lok Sabha MP. He later came in touch with Paatil and was with him during his tenure as MP. When Paatil was made state president, Mehta too shifted base.
This is not the first time that something like this has happened. In May this year, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s personal assistant Dhrumil Patel was also removed from his position. Although there were rumours that this was a deliberate move as higher-ups were not happy with his behaviour, there were also corruption charges against Dhrumil Patel.
