A repeated occurrence of “Sir”, initially thought to be a reference to the accused K. Rajesh himself, has been baffling the CBI and ED investigators as it is becoming increasingly clear that “Sir” denotes someone else here.
K Rajesh, 2011 batch IAS officer from Gujarat cadre is undergoing intense scrutiny of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate ( ED)on the charges of graft.
CBI and ED are investigating alleged corruption case agaisnt the officer who was arrested in connection with alleged corruption in granting of gun licenses. K. Rajesh had issued 271 arms licenses during his tenure. It is learnt that out of these, 101 arms licenses were issued despite the negative recommendations of the District Superintendent of Police. Not only that, 38 licences were given to government employees working under Surendranagar District Collector.
K Rajesh so far has maintained having done no wrong on his own and did whatever he did at the behest of his seniors. According to sources, Rajesh had named a few government officers during his interrogation. though is yet to reveal the identity of “Sir”
The frequent appearances of “Sir” in the chats and digital transaction records have puzzled the investigating officers. Intially it was thought that K Rajesh was addressed as “Sir”, but later in the cahts between Rajesh and Rafiq Memon, the Surat middleman who reportedly assisted the officer in a variety of allegedly illegal activities, the mysterious “Sir” appeared fairly regularly.
CBI had conducted raids on premises linked to IAS officer Kankipati Rajesh in Gandhinagar, Surendranagar, Surat and the officer’s home state Andhra Pradesh. He was arrested on July 14.Later ED too joined the probe. His accomplice was arrested from Surat.
K Rajesh, a former Collector of Surendranagar district was later transferred to sachivalaya as a joint secretary in the state government’s general administration department.
