Gujarat Tourism Department today opened a new tourist facility near the historic Dandi Monument in Navsari. This centre will provide all the modern facilities for the tourists, including a parking lot and refreshment area. The facility will also have exhibits and stores where people can purchase souvenirs, books and memorabilia.
Department Secretary Alok Pal, who inaugurated the new facility, said that this was a place where Mahatma Gandhi began the fight for independence. He said the great freedom fighter’s contributions to India’s Independence struggle are well-known all around the world and so this was an iconic location. He further said that the government will devise a specific plan for the development of Dandi, so that it becomes one of the top tourist attractions in the state, just like the Statue of Unity.
Besides Dandi Monument, Pal visited several other tourist spots in South Gujarat. He visited Saifi Villa and Satyagraha Memorial. He urged people to visit these locations to better understand the rich history behind them.
