Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a hardened criminal from Rajasthan who was on the run after escaping while taken to court when lodged in Palanpur jail. Arvind Sinh Bika hailing from Gulabganj village of Sirohi district of Rajasthan was wanted by the law and order authorities in more than 30 cases including murder and jailbreak.
Working on a tip-off, the Gujarat ATS team set up a trap at the Hirawadi near Bapunagar in Ahmedabad and caught the dreaded criminal. Two pistols, one country gun, and five live cartridges were recovered from his possession. The Bika gang comprising about 15 people was involved in serious crimes like murder, robbery, theft, extortion, possession of illegal weapons, jailbreaking, and shooting at the police.
Bika opened fire on a team of Rajasthan Police near Abu Road to free his accomplice Surendrasingh Novy, a murder accused. His other major crimes include robbing a courier company employee in the Kalupur area of Ahmedabad and a bank robbery in Banaskantha, Gujarat in 2017. In 2018, a Crime branch police team chanced upon the Bika gang holed up at Neelkanth apartment in Kathwada, Ahmedabad.
DSP B A Chavda said “We knew that he had a tendency to fire on cops so our team caught him before he could react. We found one pistol hidden under his shirt and a pistol and country-made revolver in his bag,” Police suspect that Bika was in the city to commit an armed robbery.
