Recently in may this year a lizard was found in a drink at McDonald’s near the satellite area of Ahmedabad. In a similar incident, an insect was found in dishes served at a popular eating joint Azad restaurant on Relief road and das Khaman in Maninagar. In this regard, an inquiry was ordered by the reporting system in the food department of the corporation.
When a customer ordered poori Sabji at Azad Restaurant, he found an insect floating in the pickle given along with the main dish. However, he complained about this to the manager, he got told that due to the ongoing monsoon the insect must have flown inside the restaurant. On the other hand, a user tagged the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Twitter complaining that the famous Das Khaman’s chutney has an insect in it.
Following this, questions have been raised about the operation of taking complaints online by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. In this regard, Dr. Bhavin Joshi, the officer of the food department of the municipal corporation, said that I am investigating the matter.
There are more than 5000 hotels and restaurants and fast food shops in Ahmedabad. In most hotel restaurants, there is a collusion of corruption between food department officials and hotel owners, and managers due to which there is no checking at all. Not only hotels and restaurants but small shops and lorries are also the only transactions. Food inspectors do not go there to check after receiving small amounts.
After the Lizard fiasco in McDonald’s, the officials immediately sealed the restaurant and the AMC fined McDonald’s one lakh rupees.
