PV Sindhu of India defeated China’s Wang Zhi Yi in the final match of the women’s singles at the Singapore Open 2022 on Sunday, 21-9, 11-21, 21-15. The two-time Olympic medalist dominated the first game before falling short in the second. The match went to a decider, and Sindhu came back beautifully to win her first 500 title of the year 2022. Wang Zhi Yi fought valiantly until the end, but Sindhu’s early advantage in the final game was critical to the latter’s victory.
Sindhu advanced to the finals after defeating Japan’s Saena Kawakami 21-15, 21-7 in a 32-minute semi-final match. The Singapore Open 2022 is Sindhu’s third title of the 2022 season, following wins at the Syed Modi International and the Swiss Open BWF Super 300.
