Emmy nominations are here! And much like past years, this year also nominations were dominated by HBO drama “Succession.” With 25 nods, the family drama topped the list. “Ted Lasso,” “The White Lotus” and “Only Murders in the Building” also dominated the nomination list announced by hosts JB Smoove and Melissa Fumero, Tuesday.
After dominating this year’s viewing preference index, Netflix’s much-acclaimed drama “Squid Game” has made history by becoming the first-ever non-English language show to bag a nod in the Television Academy awards. The South Korean show has earned a total of 14 Emmy nominations.
The 74th Emmy Awards will be held on September 12 in Los Angeles.
Emmy Awards, or Emmys, are an extensive range of awards for artistic and technical merit in United States television. An Emmy is considered one of the four major American awards for performing arts and entertainment – the others being the Grammy (for music), the Oscar (Academy Award, for film), and the Tony for (stage) theatre.
The Emmy statuette, depicting a winged woman holding an atom, is named after “immy”, an informal term for the image orthicon tube that was common in early television cameras.
The awards are presented by three related, but separate, organizations: the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS), the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), and the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS).
Each of these three organizations are responsible for administering a particular set of annual Emmy ceremonies held throughout the calendar year.
