Blood donation lived to its optimal when a dog in Vadodara provided his blood to a fellow paw. When she received a call late Wednesday night, Shweta Dubey knew it was not a usual one. A resident of Wadi area, she has 23 canines and is also an active member of a city-based dog lovers’ group.
“My friend’s pet was in need of immediate blood transfusion. In an earlier instance, one of the strays I adopted, donated blood to another fellow being in need. Vet Sandeep Umrethiya at Baroda Pet Clinic can be trusted blindly for the procedure,” she added.
This time, the donation was from her pet Golden Retriever to another dog. “The call needed blood from a healthy body. Daisy is among my fittest children and she helped save the life of another dog,” she informed.
Stressing on the need to go beyond grooming parlours and exotic species as pets, Dubey underlines the need for awareness camps to educate the masses on health and fitness of their pets. “People must know that animals are living beings and most of their ailments can be redressed medically. We must also set up animal blood banks,” she lists out her observations.
