The Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP) 2020 report was presented in front of Piyush Goyal, the Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Textiles, by Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman. Gujarat was identified in this study as one of the “Top Achievers” among all the states and union territories. Gujarat is joined in this group by Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.
Gujarat ranks second after Andhra Pradesh
With a score of above 90%, Gujarat placed second in this feedback-based evaluation, with Andhra Pradesh taking first place. Gujarat has moved up 8 ranks in this ranking from where it was the previous time, which is remarkable. The DPIIT evaluation is based on how well the states and union territories have carried out the changes. Notably, Gujarat is one of the two states that has completely implemented the DPIIT’s 301 reforms.
While speaking on this remarkable achievement, the Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel said,” We are making efforts to make business easy and accessible in the state through a reduction in the burden of regulatory compliance. Till now we have reduced more than 2,900 compliances which have made establishing a business in the state easier & simpler. The ranking of Gujarat among the ‘top achievers’ in the BRAP 2020 report shows that we are moving ahead in the right direction. We are striving hard to realise the dream of the Prime Minister to make India self-reliant. We aim to make Gujarat an epicentre of the industrial sector not only in India but in the entire world. I hereby heartily congratulate ‘Team Gujarat’.”
“EoDB ranking is based on user feedback and focuses on the ground implementation of reforms in the state. The state government has introduced a star rating mechanism to get continuous feedback from applicants on IFP. This allows the government to address users’ concerns as well as improve existing systems and processes. In line with our efforts, Gujarat has jumped 8 places in the feedback category in BRAP 2020 and secured the second position. We’ve scored over 90 per cent in this category,” said Rahul Gupta (IAS), Commissioner of Industries, Government of Gujarat, while talking about the efforts of the state government towards the improvement of the industry sector, said.
BRAP 2020 includes sector-wise reforms for the first time
In its fifth iteration of BRAP, DPIIT graded each of India’s States and Union Territories on 301 rectification points. 15 business regulatory topics have been discussed in this article, including access to information, single-window systems, labour, the environment, sectoral changes, and other reforms that cover the entire lifespan of a typical business. In BRAP 2020, sectoral changes were introduced. A total of 72 reforms were found to be necessary across 9 different industries, including trade licences, healthcare, legal metrology, movie theatres, hospitality, fire NOCs, telecom, film production, and tourism.
