National Investigation Agency(NIA), the country’s frontline anti-terror organisation, took over the Kanhaiya Lal Murder Case. The two men, seen on camera beheading a tailor who backed Nupur Sharma’s statement in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, attempted to flee the city on a motorcycle before being apprehended by police.
Gos Mohammad and Riyaz Akhtari murdered Kanhaiya Lal, 48, a tailor, over social media posts about Prophet Muhammad. The two men who gloated over the murder in a video even threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
However, the initial NIA investigation has revealed two killers have links with the Karachi-based Sunni Islamist group Dawat-e-Islami. The Rajasthan Police even declared a special investigation team (SIT) soon after the detention of the two men.
Section 144 In Udaipur
Areas under the jurisdiction of seven police stations are under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The government has suspended mobile internet services across all 33 districts of Rajasthan. The city of Udaipur is under heavy police cover after the incident.
In the video, Kanhaiya Lal began measuring one of them when a massive cleaver suddenly attacked him. The other man documented the murder in graphic detail. Then they both left the shop on motorcycles, their faces hidden behind masks to conceal their identities.
Rajsamand police chief Sudheer Chaudhary confirmed that two men wearing helmets sped the bike on a highway on Udaipur outskirts as they attempted to flee.
Before his funeral procession left their home today, the wife of the Udaipur tailor said he had returned to his shop after skipping it for days.
According to his wife, Jashoda, Kanhaiya Lal missed numerous days of work because of the death threats he received because of his social media remarks. He decided to take care of business again yesterday.
He worked for a few hours when two men pretended as clients showed up. Meanwhile, the police department has suspended an ASI.
