The closing ceremony of the 16-days sporting event was concluded in Tokyo, Japan. The closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics began in an empty stadium and following the strict COVID protocols on Sunday.
The ceremony began with six bearers bringing the flag of Japan with the Tokyo Story movie’s theme song in the background, which was followed by the national anthem of Japan. All the flagbearers of the National Olympics Committee came out with the flags of their respective nations. The bronze medallist wrestler, Bajrang Punia was the flagbearer for India and led the Indian contingent out during the parade of the athletes.
Following the flagbearers, all the athletes came out to the arena with their medals, flags and waved in comfortable tracksuits, unlike the ethnic outfits that athletes wore during the opening ceremony. The lights then went off and a spectacular light show glowed up in the middle of the arena followed by the fireworks and to end it with the glowed-up Olympics symbol, the five rings along with a piece of orchestral music.
The sporting event of overwhelming mixed emotions for over 206 countries was concluded with this on Sunday. Tokyo, with this, passed it over to Paris to host the next Summer Olympics in 2024.
