Neeraj Chopra created a golden history by topping the table of men’s javelin throw event at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday. Hurling his javelin at the distance of 87.58m, Neeraj became the first Indian to win a medal in athletics for independent India. He won the only gold for India at Tokyo Olympics and cheered up billions of hearts in India to give a sweet and everlasting closure of the game for the nation.
Neeraj took to Twitter and shared his emotions saying, “Still processing this feeling. To all India and beyond, thank you so much for your support and blessings that have helped me reach this stage. This moment will live with me forever.”
Neeraj is the first Indian to win an athletics gold at the Olympics and only the second individual gold medallist from the nation. He dedicated his medal to the ‘Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh.
