PM Modi arrived in Munich, Sunday, on a two-day visit to Germany during which he will attend the G7 Summit. On the agenda are issues like energy, food security, counter-terrorism, environment and democracy with leaders of the powerful bloc and partner countries. “An early morning touchdown in Munich… PM @narendramodi will participate in the G-7 Summit. Later this evening, he will also address a community programme in Munich,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) briefed on Twitter.
During his meet with the Indian diaspora in Munich, his speech harped on the developments made in recent years. He also chose to dwell on the Emergency. “Today is June 26. It is also known as the day when India’s democracy was trampled and suppressed 47 years ago. Emergency remains a black spot on the vibrant history of India’s democracy.”
PM Modi is attending the G7 Summit, to be held on June 26 and June 27, on an invitation by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The Summit is being hosted by Germany in its capacity as the chair of G7, a grouping of the world’s seven richest nations. G7 leaders are expected to focus on the Ukraine crisis that has triggered a geopolitical turmoil besides fuelling a global food and energy crisis. The Group of Seven countries is also expected to announce a ban on Russian gold imports amid the war in Ukraine, US President Joe Biden is reported to have affirmed.
