Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma has been tested positive for Covid on Saturday in the Rapid Antigen Test. He has been placed in isolation, with the fifth Test against England coming ahead. The test is expected to begin from July 1, and if events restrict Rohit from continuing to play, it is possible that either pacer Jasprit Bumrah or wicket keeper batter Rishabh Pant shall be asked to take his place temporarily and lead the team.
A media release said that as of now, Rohit is under isolation under the care of the BCCI Medical Team. The release also revealed that an RT-PCR test will be conducted on the weekend to verify his CT value.
The Indian Team captain had batted on the first day of the ongoing game, but remained absent in the second Indian innings.Whether he will play the match beginning on 1 July largely depends upon his RT-PCR recovery. Another player, Off-spinner Ashwin had joined the squad late as he too, had tested positive for COVID, before the team left for the UK tour.
