Sonia Gandhi, the acting head of the Congress, asked on Wednesday to have her appearance before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) postponed “by a few weeks” until she had fully recovered from a lung illness and the COVID-19 virus.
Sources claim that ED has granted her written plea for postponement of the summons in the National Herald case for today. The agency has not yet decided when she will get a new subpoena.
Sonia Gandhi was treated at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi beginning on June 12 and let go on June 20. Following the COVID infection, she experienced severe nose bleeding and underwent further surgery.
According to the party statement, Sonia Gandhi was receiving treatment for post-COVID symptoms as well as a fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract.
Congress’ communications director Ramesh tweeted, “Since she has been strictly advised rest at home following her hospitalization on account of Covid and lung infection, Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has written to ED today seeking the postponement of her appearance there by a few weeks till she has recovered completely,”

In total, Rahul Gandhi was questioned by the ED for more than 27 hours for three days, from June 13 to June 15, before being called in again on June 20. His interrogation took place on Monday for 14 hours. On June 13, the Congressman was first deposed in front of ED investigators.
He was summoned by court on June 17 after he asked for an absence from his appearance on June 16. However, citing his mother Sonia Gandhi’s condition, the senior Congress leader appealed to the ED to request a postponement of his interview. On June 20, the ED finally granted his request to join the investigation.
