Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Gujarat and will soon reopen the Mahakali temple in Pavagadh, Panchmahals district, after it was renovated. On this occasion, the Prime Minister will perform a puja at the temple before hoisting the flag at full mast atop the shrine for the first time in decades.
Earlier today, he celebrated his mother Hiraba Modi’s 100th birthday, as she turned 100 today (June 18). She lives in Raysan village, on the outskirts of Gandhinagar, with the prime minister’s younger brother Pankaj Modi. The area is administered by the BJP-controlled Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation.
The Hatkeshwar Mahadev Temple in Vadnagar has organised a number of religious programmes in support of the prime minister’s mother’s long life and health.
History of Pavagadh Temple:
Pavagadh is a popular tourist destination in Gujarat. The Shaktipeeth on the Pavagadh mountain is one of 52 Shaktipeeths. The ancient Maa Kali temple is located on the Pavagadh hill. Sage Vishwamitra performed severe penance for Mother Kali here. Pavagadh is approximately 762 metres above sea level. To reach this Shaktipeeth, both a ropeway and a ladder are available. Pavagadh is also very important to the Jain sect. In 2004, the world organisation UNESCO added this site to its list of World Heritage sites. The temple renovation is part of a larger plan to make Pavagadh a pilgrimage and tourist destination.
