The Ministry of Women and Child Development is preparing to echo the girl panchayat system across the nation after looking at the success of the Kutch initiative.
Various villages in the Kutch district had earlier conducted elections for the ‘Balika Panchayat’. The Women and Child Development Welfare department of The Gujarat Government initiated this initiative under the unique proposition “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign.
Kunaria, Maska, Motagua, and Vadsar villages served as the starting points of the Kutch District.
Balika Panchayat is governed by those between the ages of 11 and 21. Its central goals are to advance the social and political advancement of girls and eradicate harmful societal customs like child marriage and the dowry system.
Experts said that this initiative is a way to ensure that girls are actively involved in politics from a young age. It will also promote politics as a field that girls can flourish in. Through Balika Panchayat, help can be offered to girls who are not allowed to come out of home or get an education. This initiative has the capability to change the perspective of the parents on girls’ education.
