Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Gujarat State President Gopal Italia today announced that the party is going to launch ‘Bijli Andolan’ in the state, in order to highlight the high prices of electricity. During the campaign that will begin on June 15, the party will hold a press conference in every district and take the matter to the Collector’s office. The party will apply to the Collector and demand that the people of Gujarat get free electricity.
Italia said, “AAP is about to start an electricity movement in the whole of Gujarat which will commence from June 15. On June 15, the party will hold a press conference in every district. Afterward, the leaders and workers will go to the Collector’s office along with the supporters in large numbers and make a presentation to the Collector demanding that the people of Gujarat should also get free electricity.”
Talking about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state, Italia insisted that the price of electricity in Gujarat was so high because the ruling party was corrupt and making money. “AAP will bust the racket run by the BJP to rob the people by colluding with the power companies. From 16 to 24 June, a public relations programme will be held on the issue of electricity covering the entire state. The party will hold rallies, padyatras and mashal yatra in all the districts and towns, under the leadership of party’s state and district office bearers.”
The AAP aims to raise awareness regarding the high prices of electricity among the people. The party will then call on the people and ask every individual to fill out a demand form, in order to know what the public opinion on this matter was.
Gopal Italia applauded Arvind Kejriwal’s government in Delhi and Punjab for its efforts to provide free electricity to the people of both states. He said AAP can do the same in Gujarat as well. He added, “Today, the whole country knows that Kejriwal’s Delhi Government has been giving 200 units of free electricity to the people of Delhi immediately after coming to power and the plan to provide up to 300 units of free electricity in Punjab will be implemented in a short time. Arvind Kejriwal has set an example that if the government is honest and committed to working in the interest of the people then all the goals and objectives are within its reach. Such a government can do anything no matter how difficult it is.”
