In a shocking incident that could deter several working couples, a full-time caretaker in Ahmedabad city has been arrested for human trafficking her ward.
Abhijeet Sen and his wife were a typical working couple. They hired Bindu Sharma as the caretaker for their 11-month-old infant baby girl. The working parents not only hired the help from an accredited domestic help service but were paying the help Rs 18,500 per month to look after Ria (not her real name). Ria appeared happy in her nanny’s presence who was even educated. The Bengali couple had verified the caretaker nanny’s address and had done physical verification of her home address and other details also.
Bindu had been hired for the last three months and only after the Sens were comfortable, they started going to the office leaving Ria with the nanny at their posh Solaris Appartement in Motera area of Ahmedabad. The Sens are IT professionals. While the wife has a job, the husband owns his own software company.
According to Ahmedabad police, Abhijeet was at work when he got a call from Bengal police. The Bengal police had bust a human trafficking racket and found a picture of an infant baby. A Bengali couple reportedly had been öffered”this baby girl for adoption from Ahmedabad by another Bengali couple. The name of the baby’s mother was Bindu Sharma and the father was listed as Amit Sharma.
According to DCP Vijay Patel, he got a call from Bengal police with the Solaris address and baby Ria’s picture. The very sane Bengali couple who had agreed for adoption were wary because the Ria’s “mother” Bindu Sharma had once confused the birth date of the baby girl. The Bengali couple who lives in Jaipaiguri on their approached Bengal police to confirm with the Ahmedabad police whether the girl they were adopting from the city was through legal means and through her parents.
Both the Bengal and Ahmedabad police should be applauded that they took immediate action to find out the truth. The truth was bitter. Bindu Sharma was posing as baby Ria’s mother and her husband Amit was posing as Ria’s dad. They had contacted a baby broker and “sold” the baby with a commission to the Bengali couple. Ahmedabad police immediately called up Abhijeet Sen and asked if he was the father of Baby Ria. When he said yes, the police asked whether they had put up their child up for adoption. A shocked Abhijeet said no. The police sent him the picture of the girl. Abhijeet was shocked to see his daughter’s picture and rushed home. The police also went with him.
Bindu Sharma was caught at his home itself. If the police would not have called up Abhijeet on time and he would not have rushed home with the police, Bindu would have escaped. A train ticket to W Bengal was also seized from Bindu. She had a train to catch with the baby just two hours before she was arrested.
More details are awaited. The police will also be investigating, Home Service, the company that had recommended Bindu for the Sen family. Bindu is also from W Bengal. Bindu and her husband Amit had contacted Prashant Kamble a Maharashtra based baby broker who had finalized the sale of the baby in the name of adoption. Kamble has been in prison before for human trafficking babies and minors.
