Muslim community in Gorwa area of Vadodara took to the streets this morning after the Jumma prayers, to protest against Nupur Sharma’s derogatory comments regarding Prophet Muhammad. During the rally, people expressed their outrage against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ex-member by shouting slogans and displaying placards.
Later, DCP, ACP, PI and officials from the Crime Branch reached the spot. With much persuasion, people were convinced to end the rally.
Nupur Sharma had made some derogatory remarks against the Prophet Muhammad in late May when she participated in a television debate. These comments caused quite a stir, in India as well as abroad. BJP came under fire from the Arab World. When Qatar, Iran and Kuwait expressed their anger over the comments made by Sharma, BJP was quick to take action to soothe any ruffled feathers, and suspended her. Sharma too posted a public apology, saying that her comments had been a result of her frustration over TV debates and she had not intended to hurt anybody’s sentiments.
However, it seems that these efforts were not enough as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and the Maldives also joined in the criticism against BJP. Now, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, Libya, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Pakistan and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation are all standing against BJP and India over this matter.
In the latest, Al-Qaeda too has issued a letter threatening to launch suicide attacks in Gujarat, Delhi, Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh in order to protect the Prophet’s honour. In the letter, the terror group has said that their people would bind bombs to their bodies and would target to kill those who have insulted Prophet Muhammad.
