Partners in bad times (not crimes, as some of you are predisposed to think) forge a bond of never-ending understanding. Like a lawyer who puts his entire learning to test to wrest his client from being unfairly dealt with. Senior counsel Desai puts it rather succinctly: “You become an advocate after you rescue the client from the enemy, judge and law. Then, the client is yours, bound by a loop of never-ending loyalty.”.
Junior lawyers practising under any senior corporate advocate are bound to be ingrained with this dictum. Usually, the government is the enemy (we are not saying, just reporting hearsay) to be tackled in court in a matter of tax evasion. Juniors toil more than 16 hours a day for weeks during the drafting of the case submission with facts that tactfully make stand the laws in the docks. For eg, policy executions in GST matters.
Hmmm… now that’s hard work. Studying laws to circumvent their application needs more than just a bookish mind. No wonder our dear Judge Pardiwala’s statement rings true even now: “It is easier to reach the moon than understand the GST.”
Should we congratulate the mettle of such lawyers or initiate a petition to re-work GST laws? Help out folks!
Hurl Your Point?
The state government’s political power station hosted an unfortunate incident. Not that fights, brawls, use of expletives and threats are rare, but our heart goes out this young MLA. Now word has it that this people’s representative appeared at the golden secretariat to make a presentation. Details are not exactly clear about what transpired within, but shortly after coming out, the MLA “hurled himself” at the security officers below. The scene, reported last week, was resolved only when some other office bearers rushed out on hearing the din.
Some cold drinks were brought, not to cool off the matter but to help that young MLA. The rest, as they say, time will tell.
Courtesies On Mondays. Normal From Tuesday
The state secretariat has a public day on Mondays. Real business gets moving onwards Tuesdays. Insiders say that for some reason, ministers welcome Congress MLAs with full respect and dignity. In turn, Congress MLAs also choose lower decibels for their suggestions and presentations.
Now, from Tuesday, the scene builds up to a climax. Is it a mangal dosh or just that when it comes to business, let’s-talk-real takes over. Whatever be the case, this little snippet is meant to forewarn you folks. If you must go for official work, time it with Monday.

We really cannot understand this. Supposedly, the police and even officials in the state Home department are aware. A young man who goes by the name Yogesh makes a routine appearance at 50 police stations once a month. Okay, this is easy to understand. Now read on…
He carries a medical kit, much like the medical representatives are seen lugging around doctors’ clinics. Now, the moment he appears, some envelope is passed on, reportedly with Rs 30,000 in it. “This is routine. Sahabs are all aware and even Anti-Corruption Bureau has been told. But now there is nothing alarming about it. He is just doing his duty,” says a junior officer in one of the PSs.
So many questions now? Who does the money go to? Why is no action being taken? And why, does Yogeshji thrown in big big names all the time? Does the medical kit have something to do with remnants of some scam that came to light a while ago?
