According to a community leader, more than 100 Hindu families have fled Kashmir as a result of the assassination of a Hindu school teacher in Kulgam.
Terrorists killed Rajni Bala, 36, outside a government school in Kulgam, south of Srinagar, on Tuesday.
Avtar Krishan Bhat, President of a Kashmiri Pandit Colony in Baramulla, said nearly half of the 300 families who lived here have fled since Tuesday.
“They were afraid following the murder the day before. We’ll depart by tomorrow as well as we’re waiting for an answer from the government, he stated”. “We had asked the government to relocate us outside Kashmir.”
Residents said that police had cordoned off a section of Srinagar and increased security around the homes of Kashmiri Pandit Government employees.
Although the local authorities did not immediately react to a request for comment on the families departing, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured Kashmiri Pandits last month that security measures would be upgraded.
Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit working at the tehsil office, was shot dead inside his office last month, sparking demonstrations from other Kashmiri Pandit employees who requested re-location to safer regions outside the Kashmir valley.
Earlier today, a bank manager was shot dead by terrorists in the Kulgam district of Jammu & Kashmir- the latest in a spate of targeted killings of civilians.
According to official sources, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will attend a high-level meeting here in the national capital on June 3 to discuss the recent killings of Kashmiri Pandits in the Union Territory.
It is learned that National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh will also participate in the meeting that which is expected to start on the scheduled date in the first half of the day.
