“It was an overwhelming sensation going to the festival because I didn’t just go with some liquor brand or to walk the red carpet for nothing. I’m sure there were a lot of people doing it. But I went there to premiere the poster for my film Safed,” holds actor Meera Chopra. She is also known for her films in Tamil and Telugu.
Underscoring the need for “greater emphasis on work,” she minces no words in questioning the need to become a “piece to snap.” In a recent interview, she stated: “It’s a really shallow way of thinking. I was looking for outfits for my festival. I had a difficult time because most Indian designers wanted to dress Deepika Padukone or a greater celebrity. I was nervous and couldn’t sleep for three or four nights while looking for clothes since I felt this pressure in my head.”
Chopra goes on to explain how finding outfits for red carpet appearances at the festival became a difficult task. For her outings, she chose Christophe Guillarme, Malaand Kinnaryofficial, Sophie Couture, and Nikhil Thampi.
The actor understands that being at the festival comes with a lot of exposure because the entire world is watching. “However, the whole process of getting dressed up, taking pictures, and posting them on social media has become tedious and monotonous.” “I’m not sure what it serves.”
For Chopra, it was more about engaging with people who were enthusiastic about cinema and business,” she informed, “than it was to just look good, walk the red carpet, and get snapped.”
She found her peace by focusing on her work, and she isn’t even concerned about how the international exposure will affect her career. “I’m not sure how being visible in Cannes can help you advance in your career.” But that doesn’t really matter to me. It was all about broadening your horizons, expanding your network, and exhibiting your talent,” she concluded.
