This indeed is big news!! BTS is all set to create history. The Grammy-nominated group is all set to meet US President Joe Biden at The White House to speak about Anti-Asian Hate on May 31. The White House tweeted about the announcement, leaving fans super excited.
They will discuss Asian inclusion and representation with US President Biden. As announced by The White House, topics of Anti-Asian hate crimes and discrimination based on colour will be a part of the agenda. The discussion comes timely at the end of May, which is regarded as the Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month
The White House meeting comes just over a year after BTS denounced widespread anti-Asian racism following a surge of violence in the U.S. “We stand against racial discrimination,” the group said. “We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together.”
BTS also noted the moments when they faced discrimination — “We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look” — but called these instances “inconsequential” compared the uptick in anti-Asian violence. Still, they added, “these experiences were enough to make us feel powerless and chip away our self-esteem. … What is happening right now cannot be dissociated from our identity as Asians.”
BTS have earlier addressed the issue of Asian Hate and have taken an important stand. A letter by the group calling out anti-Asian discrimination and hate crimes was one of the most retweeted post on Twitter in 2021. In March 2021, BTS posted a statement against the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes especially during the pandemic.
BTS will also be making their much-awaited comeback this June with their anthology album, “Proof.” The comeback is due three days before their June 12, their ninth debut anniversary.
