Electronic gadgets are all the fad with youngsters these days, with many seeking the latest models in every category. This is true, no matter whether the college kids and parents can afford these newer versions or not. Personal liking and enthusiasm over technology is one thing, but often times these teenagers are the victims of the peer pressure. Considering, these high-school and college kids are willing to go to extreme lengths to get what they want.
In such a case, a 18-year old girl in Ahmedabad threatened to hurt herself if her parents refused to buy her the latest model of the smart-phone. The girl is a first year medical student and her parents are lawyers. Even though they are a well-to do family, the parents refused to buy her a new phone, because she already had a completely functional phone with her.
As the argument between the daughter and her parents escalated, the girl got up on the chair and raised her hand to the ceiling fan, threatening her parents with self-harm. She kept arguing and trying to put her hand in the way of the blades of the ceiling fan.
The father then called 181, and a counsellor and a woman constable arrived on the spot. The girl was stubborn and it took the counsellor and the police woman more than half-an-hour to calm her down and get her down to safety.
