Gujarat’s Rajkot district has a new Police Commissioner. The Government of Gujarat Home Department has issued a notification from Sachivalaya, Gandhinagar, on May 24, 2022. The notice mentions the transfer of the gazetted officer and IPS Raju Bhargava. The Gujarat Government has immediately transferred IPS Raju Bhargava, Additional Directorate General of Police, Gandhinagar, to Rajkot. However, IPS Bhargava would be joining the office as the Commissioner of Police.
The memo also mentions the relief of IPS Khursheed Ahmed from additional charges. In the absence of a CP in Rajkot, Ahmed was a temporary substitute. Earlier in February, Khursheed Ahmed had ordered a probe against the previous CP of Rajkot, Manoj Agrawal. The Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Gujarat, Home Department, Raj Kumar, validated the notice.
The Government transferred Manoj Agrawal as Principal of the State Reserve Police Training School in Junagadh in February 2022. The Gujarat Government moved IPS Agrawal a month after the allegations by Rajkot MLA Govind Patel and others. Later, the Government of Gujarat posted IPS Ahmed as the Special Commissioner till the position remained vacant.
However, Gujarat has been witnessing consistent transfers in the police department. In 2022, the Gujarat DGP Ashish Bhatia repositioned the entire Rajkot Crime Branch and Special Operation Group Inspector to non-sensitive work. In April, the Gujarat Government also transferred two IAS officers, Mukesh Puri and Manish Bharadwaj.
Raju Bharadwaj, the New Police Commissioner of Rajkot, hails from Gujarat. Born in 1966, Bhargava belongs to the 1995 IPS batch. Moreover, his educational qualifications are B.Sc. (Hons), MA (Economics), and Masters in Business Administration. Currently, IPS Prafulla Kumar Roshan (1996 Batch) is filling his shoes in Gandhinagar.
