The Gujarat president of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Sabir Kabliwala has abruptly dissolved all party units in Surat.
The development occurred shortly after party leader Asaduddin Owaisi addressed a public meeting in Surat’s Limbayat neighborhood in South Gujarat.
The state unit president dissolved Surat city and district committees, women committees, and the youth wing within 24 hours of his visit.
According to Wasim Qureshi, Surat city committee president of AIMIM, no reason for dissolving committees was given in the letter by the state unit president. He also stated that he is seeking legal counsel on the matter, after which he will release his version.
In the video clip, Surat youth wing vice-president Saiyed Mazhar Saiyed Qamar claims that Surat city president Wasim Qureshi and state unit office-bearer Khurshid Ahmed approached him last week and asked him to donate Rs 3.50 lakh to the party, in exchange for which party national leader Owaisi will stop at Zampabazar, where he will be able to greet the leader. He claims to have given Rs 2.50 lakh in cash to Qureshi and Ahmed.
Mazhar claims that he was promised that if the national leader’s route is changed, he will stop at two locations in the Zampabazar area and will greet Owaisi at both. According to him it might have helped him gain popularity.
Party sources also stated that while there was no doubt a large crowd in Limbayat, when Owaisi’s convoy approached the venue, a small group displayed black flags, which was taken seriously by the party’s state and national leaders.
