The world’s largest diamond trading hub will be inaugurated in Surat on June 5, with Ganesh Pooja and Maha Aarti. This Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) is the largest in the world, where 175 countries of the world can participate in trading.
The record was held by Willis Tower in Chicago so far, which has an area of 4,16,000 square metres. Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, will also lag behind Surat Diamond Bourse.
Dream City of Surat Diamond Bourse, whose construction began in December 2017, is spread across 35.54 acres with availability of 66 lakh square feet built-up area. It has 4,200 offices for national and international Diamond traders. It will also have accommodation facility for traders and others, as well as housing colony.
Almost 100% work on this Surat Diamond Bourse has bean completed and efforts are being made to get the trading started as early as possible. Vallabh Lakhani, chairman of the SDB, says, “The construction of the Diamond Bourse is 100% complete. A reunion program has been organized for all the members. We’re working hard to get the Diamond Bourse started as soon as possible. “
More than 4,000 traders from home and abroad are part of this project. The project has adhered to the criteria of International Green Building. Everything from solar power to eco-friendly items will be seen in this project.
At present the annual export of diamond industry in Surat stands at around 1.50 lakh crore. This figure will increase after Surat Diamond Bourse is operational.
