India has had an illustrious list of Hockey players. Vibes of India introduces you to some of the brightest stars of our golden galaxy of hockey players.
Dhyan Chand
Our greatest hockey player, DhyanChand made his mark in the 1928 Olympics where he scored 14 goals to help India win the gold, he went on to craft his way to being one of the best players the world has ever seen.He also made India win in 1932 and 1936 also.Dhyan Chand scored over 400 goals in his career, and left a legacy that seems very hard to match. Dhyan Chand however died penniless and uncared for in a hospital, receiving a meagre pension in 1979.
Roop Singh
Roop Singh was another great Indian hockey player. He was part of the team that won gold medals for India at the 1932 and 1936 Olympic Games. He was the younger brother of Dhyan Chand. He Scored 3 goals against Japan and 10 against the USA in Los Angeles Summer Olympics in 1932 which are considered the best in his career.
Udham Singh
Udham Singh played in four Olympics and helped India win two Gold medals in 1952 and 1956. He was also a Captain for a short while and let the Indian Team in World Cup Hockey held in France.
Mohammed Shahid
Mohammed Shahid known for his dribbling skills was a member of the Indian team that won gold at the 1980 Olympics. He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1980 and Padma Shri in 1986.
He was also awarded the ‘Best Forward player’ at the 1980 Champions Trophy in Karachi.
