Based on a complaint lodged over financial irregularities, the CBI raided the residence of IAS K Rajesh, late Thursday night. Kankipati Rajesh is a 2011 batch IAS (Gujarat cadre) and his current posting is as Joint Secretary of NRI and ART Division of General Administration Department. The case was registered at CBI Delhi and relates to a land scam. He is also charged with issue of arms licenses, against bribe. No other details have been released so far.
Officer Rajesh also holds a B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics from Pondicherry Central University and cleared the UPSC at a 103 rank in 2010. After training in Mussoorie, Rajesh served as assistant collector in Junagadh in 2013, then as assistant collector in Surat. Thereon, he was posted as district development officer in Surat, and then as Surendranagar collector.
It may be recalled that in 2018, Rajesh suspended the duties of additional collector, deputy collector-in-charge mamlatdar in Chotila, and Surendranagar collector. He also filed a complaint against all three officers for falsifying documents over a 320-acres land.
CBI also arrested a man named Rafiq Memon from Surat who is likely to be a close mate of K Rajesh. K Rajesh has been charged with heavy bribery and his close acquaintance Rafiq has been accused of being a mediator and has been arrested by the Surat CBI. The CBI also struck at Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, the residence of K. Rajesh.
