Waterborne diseases are taking a toll in the city as the summer temperature is reaching new heights every day. Due to this, a team of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation health department on Wednesday, May 18, carried out impromptu checks of 58 food eateries in Shahibaug area of the city. Out of 31 collected water samples, 5 were found contaminated and as a result, the department sealed those 5 Food joints.
After collected samples found unfit restaurants like Pavan Sindhi Dosavala, Prem Mevad, Gopi restaurant, Honey Breakfast and Shakti Sandwich were sealed after collected samples found unfit.
City Hospitals recorded 395 cases of diarrhea from May 1 to May 14 as compared to only 4 cases in May last year. Thus recording increase of 9775% in the cases. On the other the number of typhoid cases reached to 111 cases in comparison to only 17 cases in May last year. This reports were concerning due to which the health department had to carry out this drive. An official of the department stated that, “it became necessary to carry out such drive to control waterborne diseases.”
