Archaeologists have found a female half-skeleton in Vadnagar, the hometown of PM Narendra Modi. Interestingly, the DNA analysis and physiological ratios of the finding show that the woman could be the great-great-great-grandmother of the larger population of the town.
According to Niraj Rai, the DNA of the skeleton matches the typical Gujarati population. Rai is the group head of the Ancient DNA Lab at Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, Lucknow. It also gives a glance into the population genesis of the area. As per the reports, the skeleton dated around the 1st to 4th century AD. It is noteworthy that the woman did not possess any diseases. Studies also show that the town population is in a continuum for the last two thousand years.
Vadnagar Depicts Evolution Of Society: ASI
The ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) team excavated several sites in the town on Wednesday, May 18. Later, they presented the findings at the International Conference at Mahatama Mandir in Gandhinagar. Abhijit Ambekar, Superintendent Archaeologist, Fifth Excavation Branch of ASI, informed the gathering about the experts the ASI is persuading. The department will include archaeobotanists, seismologists, DNA analysts, and conchologists. Their objective will be to provide a deeper insight into the site. Ambekar mentioned that the uniqueness of Vadnagar lies in the constant habitation since the 2nd century BC. It gives us a peek into the evolution of society.
The ASI has found several skeletons that narrate different stories. The department found another fossil in a seated position. As per the studies, the finding has Bihar or Uttar Pradesh ancestry. Moreover, the excavation team spotted skeleton remains of a few Buddhist relics from the same region. As per speculations, they belong to a Buddhist group living in the Vadnagar.
The three-day Vadnagar International Conference highlights the studies on Vadnagar in the last two decades. Furthermore, the conference shares the finding with the larger community, including pupils, investigators, and academia. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and MoS Meenakshi Lekhi inaugurated the International Conference on Wednesday, May 18.
