A Silchar-Guwahati train got stranded in Cachar due to a flood caused by heavy rains. The IAF rescued the trapped travellers on Sunday. The train was unable to proceed ahead or reverse due to flood water. After the train was stalled for several hours, the district government rescued 119 individuals with the assistance of the Indian Air Force.
In various locations, Assam has been destroyed by flash floods and large landslides, cutting rail and road linkages to other parts of the state. This is the first wave of floods this year and has already affected nearly 25,000 people across six districts of Assam since Saturday.
Following incessant rains in Assam and neighbouring states — Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh– in the past couple of days, the water level of several rivers is gradually increasing and the water in Kopili river is flowing above the danger level mark. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), landslides have been reported in New Kunjung, Fiangpui, Moulhoi, Namzeurang, South Bagetar, Mahadev Tilla, Kalibari, North Bagetar, Zion and Lodi Pangmoul villages, affecting around 80 houses.
