Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers seem to have gotten into yet another clash on Saturday night in Surat. This time, however, both parties have filed a FIR against each other for unlawful assembly and rioting.
AAP organisation secretary Ram Dhaduk filed a complaint against some 25 BJP workers, claiming that the latter thrashed him and six of his colleagues in Sarthana at around 10:30pm on Saturday. He said that party workers were coming back from a program when BJP workers mobbed them and attacked them with sticks and belts. Furthermore, the BJP workers also threatened to kill the AAP leaders if they continued to campaign. The whole incident is captured on CCTV cameras.
On the other hand BJP workers too have filed an FIR against the AAP members. BJP leader Dinesh Desai alleged that three AAP members, including Dhaduk, and four others assaulted them and threatened to kill them.
The two FIRs were lodged on Sunday evening under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of trust), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) at the Sarthana police station. No arrests have been made yet and the investigation is underway.
