Revision of law in October 2021, where every establishment must get Building Use (BU) permission to renew their Form C or register the unit, is causing many issues for the medical industry in Ahmedabad. The BU permission is usually given by authorities like the AUDA or the Municipal Corporation, following a review in order to ensure that the facility is inline with the safety guidelines. The revised rule with the directives of the judiciary, ensures that all hospitals follow strict fire and building safety regulations. However, this mandatory permission is causing many problems, including obvious delay in procedures to acquire required certificates.
Ahmedabad Hospitals & Nursing Homes Association (AHNA) recently talked to the reporters and slammed the new law saying that because of these revisions more than 400 medical facilities in the city are facing closure. These facilities include hospitals and nursing homes, which need to get their Form C renewed by May 31.
Dr. Viren Shah, the secretary of AHNA, said that until now all medical facilities have been providing the essential documents under the Bombay Nursing Homes Registration Act, 1949. The establishment are paying taxes, and appropriate fees, but are now facing this obstacle.
AHNA president Dr Bharat Gadhvi said more than 50% of the medical establishments might not have permissions that meet the new BU regulations. Nevertheless, because of AHNA’s active involvement, at least 99% of the facilities have fire and other safety precautions already. This is not fair as other commercial establishments in other fields are not targeted.
