Congress is gearing up for the Assembly polls in Gujarat as top-leadership of the party are set to hold a 3-day meeting ‘Chintan Shibir’ in Udaipur to brainstorm their strategy. The top state and district level leaders of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) will attend this event.
MPs and MLAs from all the states and some other important dignitaries are expected at the meeting that will be held from May 13 to May 15. According to sources, two luxury hotels have been booked for the occasion.
It is believed that the Congress leaders will lay out strategies and plans on how it can break BJP’s almost 3 decade long reign in the state. BJP has been ruling in Gujarat for almost 27 years and so far it has continued to have a stronghold on this region.
The Congress leaders might also discuss their way to tackle the next Lok Sabha elections.
Besides Gujarat, the party is likely to discuss Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan polls as well.
Interestingly, Congress has chosen to hold its meeting in Udaipur that is in Mewar district of Rajasthan. Historically, the party that wins in Mewar has also won over Rajasthan.
This news brings with it some hope for Gujarat’s Congress party. The party in the state has been grappling with internal conflicts, with several leaders quitting to join other parties. Several other leaders have expressed anger and discontent towards the state leadership for its lack of action and indecisiveness.
As for the Congress’ national agenda, this event follows series of meeting between Sonia Gandhi and other top-leaders and political strategist Prashant Kishor. Prashant Kishor was the mastermind behind Narendra Modi’s 2014 win.
