Oscars To Live Real Life Reel Moments After Pandemic Pause

| Updated: March 27, 2022 10:24

After a pandemic Oscars, which was televised as a pre-recorded event in 2021, this March 27 date in Los Angeles promises the same drama and oomph. In India, it will be on March 28 in the wee hours of 5:30 am.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) will honour motion pictures and the various artistes, directors and technicians at the 94th Oscars. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of James Bond movies and the 50th anniversary of “The Godfather.” Both landmark years will be marked by a special celebration section.

Many star performers have been nominated this year: from Olivia Colman, Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Kristen Stewart, Javier Bardem, Andrew Garfield, Benedict Cumberbatch, Will Smith to Denzel Washington. All will be vying for the “best leading actor” award.

With Will Smith there is one more veteran filmmaker, the legendary Steven Spielberg, running in the race with his film “West Side Story.” The filmmaker is poised to recreate history after 1993 in which he received his first Oscar for “Schindler’s List.”

There is also one Indian connection with the Oscars this year. The Documentary “Writing With Fire” has made it to the final nominations list along with other contenders such as Ascension, Attica, Flee, and Summer of Soul

Some nominations category wise:

Best Actor (Female): Jessica Chastain for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Olivia Colman for The Lost Daughter, Penélope Cruz for Parallel Mothers, Nicole Kidman for Being the Ricardos and Kristen Stewart for Spencer.

Best Actor (Male): Will Smith for King Richard, Denzel Washington for The Tragedy of Macbeth, Javier Bardem for Being the Ricardos, Benedict Cumberbatch for The Power of the Dog and Andrew Garfield for Tick, Tick … Boom!

Best Director: Paul Thomas Anderson for Licorice Pizza, Kenneth Branagh for Belfast, Jane Campion for The Power of the Dog, Steven Spielberg for West Side Story and Ryûsuke Hamaguchi for Drive My Car.
