Over fears of exotic animals being able to adapt to the environs of Kevadia Jungle, the government, nonetheless went ahead in February 2020. As such, four-legged and winged species were bought from as far as Australia and Africa. However, though well-intended, the animals have paid for human touristic opportunities with their life.
The state government admitted about death of 49 exotics during questioning hour Thursday.
Animals shipped included five alpacas, four lamas, five wallabies, five giraffes, two oryx and three wildebeest. Of these, the survivors are three alpacas, two lamas, one giraffe and only one zebra!
Briefing on the same, the government statement pointed out the animals died due to respiratory and blood circulatory disorders, some of them died due to hypovolemic shock, asphyxia, multi-organ failure, severe abdominal colic, pneumonia and cardiac failures.
While intense care and monitoring in their transfer was made for, the clime, habitat and terrain of their native place could not be duplicated.
