Even though the Covid-19 cases across the country have seen a significant dip in the last few weeks, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has decided to extend the ban on scheduled international commercial flights even further, according to the latest notice.
In a circular on Monday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated: “The competent authority has decided to extend the suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger services to/from India till further orders.”
This restriction will not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the DGCA and that flights under bubble arrangement will also not be affected, it added.
Taking the note of current situation, the government has also arranged flight services under ‘Operation Ganga’ to evacuate Indians stranded in war-torn Ukraine as Russia continues to invade.
Since the airspace over Ukraine is closed, several countries in central Europe, including Romania, Hungary, and Poland, are helping India operate evacuation flights via alternative routes.
India had announced earlier that international flights would resume on December 15, 2021, but the decision was rescinded after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for review of the decision in wake of the Omicron variant.
Scheduled international passenger flights have been suspended in India since March 23, 2020, following the outbreak of the coronavirus.
