Amid the war crisis between Russia and Ukraine, thousands of Indians, majority of whom are students, are stranded in Ukraine. Although, the Ministry of External Affairs has said that it is constantly trying to provide help through the Indian Embassy, the situation is looking grave.
As the pressure on the ministry is growing, Rajya Sabha MP and former Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil has attacked the central government for not acting in time. In his tweet, he said, “Five days ago (on 19/2/2022) I demanded the immediate and safe return of Indian nationals from Ukraine. The government did not act immediately and today our citizens are trapped in a war-torn country. The government has completely failed in foreign policy.” The Congress state MP further alleged that in such an odd situation, the fare in Air India has been increased by three to four times. This happened because the government benched Air India. He demanded that the students be brought back safely and immediately, without any fee.
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations on the Russia-Ukraine dispute T.S. Tirumurti, appealed that the war be postponed immediately, as the situation is on the verge of turning into a major crisis. If it is not handled carefully it can weaken the security, he said, and that safety of all the parties must be considered.
Russia’s representative to the United Nations said the special operations announced by President Vladimir Putin are to protect the people who have been suffering for years. The goal, he said, was to break free from genocide. Putin has also warned that if any other country tries to interfere, there would be severe consequences.
