A deliberate attempt to derail train along the Matoda and Maroiya route was discovered by the police on Monday morning. The route is called the Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar track. A railway employee who was stationed along the route found that more than 230 clips that secure the rail tracks to concrete had been removed, which put trains at the risk of derailing. The employee notified the seniors and railway protection force immediately and the police were called in. All trains on the route were put on hold for around two hours after the discovery. Fortunately, the situation was controlled before any accident.
The police further said that it was not an attempt to steal clips as they were found thrown in the bushes. The act was done with malicious intent and put any train at the risk of derailing. This is a track where only goods trains run. The police assured that no passenger trains use the said track.
Further investigation is underway and several different bodies might get involved in the same. The Sabarmati railway police has filed a complaint under Section 150 of the railways act for maliciously wrecking train.
