India defeated West Indies by six wickets in their first ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday, taking a lead of 1-0 in a tri-ODI series. Winning the toss, India opted to bowl and bundled out the Windies in 176 runs in 43.5 overs.
With an early wicket of West Indian opening batsman – Shai Hope by Mohmmad Siraj for 8 runs, the Windies got a slow start. Washington Sundar then dismissed two more batsmen – Brandon King for 13 (26) and DM Bravo for 18 (34) and at a stage the team stood on the crease, losing seven wickets in just 79 runs. However, Jason Holder played a 57-run knock off 71 balls and marked a total of 176 runs on the scoreboard but the team had wrapped up their innings in 43.5 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal took the highest of four wickets, Washington Sundar took three and Prasiddh Krishna bagged two wickets.
Chasing the target, the Indian skipper – Rohit Sharma smashed 60 runs in 51 balls and contributed 84 runs with Ishan Kishan for the opening wicket. Virat Kohli came to the crease after the captain’s wicket to score 8 runs and return. The Indian side chased down the target by losing four wickets – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan 28 (36), Rishabh Pant 11 (9) and Suryakumar Yadav 34 (36) and debutant Deepak Hooda 26 (32) finishing the target.
The next ODI of tri-series between India and West Indies will take place on February 9 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
