India on Saturday defeated England by four wickets in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup Final to claim the title for a record-extending fifth time in history. Winning the toss, Yash Dhull led Indian side chose to bowl and dismissed England for 189 runs in 44.5 overs.
India, featuring in their eighth ICC U-19 World Cup, chased down the target of 190 runs in 47.4 overs with a six and registering 195 runs on the scoreboard.
Amidst a visible batting collapse, James Rew played a 95-run knock off 116 balls and James Sales remained on the crease with an unbeaten 34 runs off 65 balls. These two led England to set a target of 190 runs for the Indian side. The brilliant performance from the Indian bowlers was the cause of batting order failure. Raj Bawa took five wickets haul. Meanwhile, Ravi Kumar registered a four-wicket haul and Kaushal Tambe too bagged a wicket in the first innings.
The opening batsmen of India were sent back to the pavilion very early, with Angkrish Raghuvanshi scoring zero runs off two balls and Harnoor Singh scoring 21 runs. However, Shaik Rashid’s 50 runs knock brought back the team India into the winning race. Also, Nishant Sindhu played an unbeaten 50-runs winning knock for India. Joshua Boyden, James Sales and Thomas Aspinwall registered two wickets each for England.
India has previously won the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018.
