The matter of building a wall in Pirana Gadi Sansthan, Ahmedabad heated after a crowd of numerous people gathered and started a massive protest. Taking prior permission for constructing the wall from the collector, the Sansthan initiated the work for it on Sunday, which led the locals to get onto the ground and lead a protesting rally on foot till the collector’s office. Also, the protestors have threatened to go on an indefinite fast.
As the construction began at Satpanth Prernatirtha Trust, the Syeds of Pirana village raised an objection to it and started blocking the road leading to Imam Shah Dargah, situated behind the trust premises. However, despite the protests, the construction of the wall continued amidst tight security.
The Satpanth Trust claimed that the trust is constructing the wall in its own premises and with the prior permission of the collector. Earlier also there were incidents like stone pelting during the evening aarti, which led us to take the decision of constructing a wall in order to prevent such cases. The locals are protesting over the place of wire fence and we are constructing a wall at a distance of five feet from it with legal approval and we haven’t done anything which could harm religious sentiments of any related party, the trust added.
The collector on Saturday approved the construction of the wall on the basis of a resolution passed by a majority of the trust and a report by the Daskroi Mamlatdar. However, with a large number of people being gathered to protest at the site, police convoys were deployed since this morning to prevent any untoward incident. More than twenty police vehicles along with senior police officers are currently patrolling the area.
