The tragic incident of the four Indians who froze to death on the Canada-US border took the world by shock. Speculations were made that these four Indians were Gujaratis. These speculations have been made clear now. The High Commission of India in Canada confirmed that these four Indians were Gujaratis. The adult male who was found was confirmed to be Jagdish bhai Patel, 39 years, along with him was his wife, Vaishaliben Patel, 37 years, and his two kids Vihangi Patel,11 years and son Dharmik, 3 years. These four Gujaratis were on a quest to shift to the US on an urgent and illegal basis. The immediate family was informed of their untimely demise. This family was from Dingucha Village, Kalol and were found dead on 19th January 2022 and the bodies were frozen due to the cold temperatures.
The Consulate General of India in Toronto is in constant touch with the family’s relatives. The Canadian authorities have confirmed that the family has died due to exposure to the cold weathers of the vicinity. The High Commission of India in Ottawa and the consulate in Toronto are still investigating this case. A whole team has been assigned to work on this case and has been camping in Manitoba to assist the investigations. This incident has brought illegal migration and mobility to light and so the government is going to ensure safe and legal migration. India has also proposed a comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement to Canada which is yet to be confirmed by the Canadian Government.
